Well the Internet is still being a little unreliable so it took me forever to get that last post on.

I forgot to include some family pics for those interested.

Here I am with all the siblings. Thats Billy, Gerry, Tom, Myself and Peggy. Marianne is missing.

Here are Gerry's grown up kids. Gerry, Missy, Matt and Pat

Oh and here is Gerry's family too. Thats Gerry Missy, Michele, Gerry, Matt and Pat

Here is my brother Tom's family, that is Tim, Tom, Marilyn and Carrie

Now here is my niece Carrie and her finance whose name escapes me, sorry...

Some of my O'callaghan cousins. Thats Norah and Pattie her daughter and Sean and wife Debbie. What a great group. Norah is the one I am sending my grandmothers letters. I love seeing her as she reminds me of my mom so much.

Internet, trips and moving on
Well I can not believe it took a week and a half to get me back on the internet. Geez what a royal pain. In the final analysis it was the router and not a virus. But at least it is working again.

My trip back to Michigan for my fathers memorial service was full of family and fun. My dad was cremated so we had a nice family gathering at my sister Peggy's house. I spent Friday helping her get ready. We cleaned the house and went shopping for supplies. Then we made some great new dishes. A spinach/artichoke dip, apricot mousse, corn with cream cheese and green chilis, a mexican 5 layered dip, sloppy joes and more.

That evening we watched "The bicycle Thief which seems to be the lamest movie I have seen in some time.

Around one in the aftrernoon the crowd started to arrive. It was a real treat to see the nephews of mine that I have not seen in years. I had seen Matt at Mom's funeral but I had not seen Gerry since Sarah was a baby. It was great catching up. My sister in law Michelle brought a DVD of Matt's new baby, Emmitt Jack Somers, right after his birth. That was great to see. You could tell that Matt wanted to be home with his new son but also wanted to be with us. I guess that is just the beginning of the conflicts you feel as a parent. Michelle also had pics of Gerry's kids Sadie and Sean, what a bunch of cuties they are. I am just going to have to make a trip to San Fransisco to see them in person. A few of my O'Callaghan cousins came too. It was great seeing Sean and Norah and Debbie and Patti. Family friends David and Dennis Pacheco showed up too. I had not seen Dennis is 30 years so that was quite a nice surprise. I visited a little with Merle Warrington, Michelle's mother. She looked so elegant. It was a nice visit, I had not seen her in years. All my siblings showed up except Marianne. I seem to see Billy only at funerals it seems but it is still nice.

I managed to hit 4 yarn stores while I was there.

This is my sister peggy posing in front of the shop.

Now its my turn.... Oh I can't wait to get inside...

Now you get to see all the goodies I bought.

First some sock yarn. This is merino and is incredibly soft and looks more purple than the picture.

Then some NORO silk yarn since I have never knit with it. I have no project in mind just wanted a skein of it and the colors were so "me".

More sock yarn. I have never tried Trekking so her is my chance.

I kept coming back to this Silk scarf kit. Its silk and silk chenille. It should be fun to knit.

Here is a closer look at the yarn.

I kept seeing this silk wool in every shop I finally bought some at the last yarn shop. It will be a shawl someday. It feels really nice.

I spun some of the green Silk last night and it was so fun to spin and see the color variation. Here is a peek on my bobbin.

I also went back to weaving the blanket. I got a couple inches done last night. Its definitely time for that to be a priority.

I will be on a plane to Michigan today or tomorrow. My dad died this morning. He suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was 88 years old so he had a long life. There is not too much sadness here as were not close. This is a time to be with family so I am headed home as soon as I get the word on when the service will be. The other siblings are hashing out details as I write. It feels weird to just be sitting here waiting. I am trying to keep myself busy. It looks like I will miss the Spin In and possibly SOAR's market but that's they way it works sometimes.

Finished at Last

Here it is, finished at last. This project has been a nemesis over my head and I am not truly happy with the outcome but I think that it is done now. Happy Dance now I can do something else.

Last night I decided there is something wrong with the Norwegian sleeve so I stopped working on that. Proceeded to cast on the 299 stitches for birch hopefully the second time around will be a charm.
I still want to knit with the red silk and all I can make is a scarf but I can not find a pattern I like.

Rainy Fall
Its what I consider a typical Setember Day even though its October. This drizzly rain and cold tempoeratures make on just want to stay inside.

I am dragging today from Sarah's sleepover. She had 6 friends over celebrating Haloween and the Anime show Naruto. They all made costumes, did hair and makeup and ate and talked and watched episodes of the show. I went to bed at 1230 but stll did not ge enough sleep.

I am having a hard time getting motivated, maybe I should just take a nap.

I have a fleece soaking in the washer so at least I will get a fleece washed today. I wanted to get several done and sent to SLC but we'll see how that goes.

Back from the Vet
Great News from the vet. Moonbeam has red swolen gums and he is now on antibiotics and hopefully that will take care of it. No wonder he was going crazy at times as it hurt to eat. I am so relieved.

Silk part 2
I dyed the 2 tussah silk bricks that I had and they came out this electric green. Too brassy for me so I redyed it. throwing blue in the mix and here is what we have.

I am taking Moonbeam to the vet, he has gotten so skinny...and strange too. I am afraid he is dieing and he has been the best cat ever.

Found out that my dad is getting ready to pass too so it looks like I will be heading home to Michigan soon. Such fun trips they are. Maybe I can work in a trip to a yarn shop while I am there.

Its Silk Time
Well I bought that new roaster to dye silk so here are the results from experiment # 1. I had a pound of silk hankies that I won at a retreat and decided it was time to dye them. I wanted lots of jewel colors which are my favorites. I found that the roaster cooks hot and the water started to boil slightly. I tried turning down to 200 degrees but it eventually coiled there too so I shut it off. I am using Sara Lamb's way to dye silk and since she is using a roaster from the 50's I am thinking that I need to revamp her recipe. She has it soaking for 3 hours and then dyeing for 3 hours. I run into boiling problems so I think I will try cutting down the time on the next experiment.

My colors are not that turquoise though. There are dark teals there and dark purple too! This camera is starting to annoy me with its color inconsistencies. Oh well anyways the colors came out nice. I have 2 4 oz bricks of tussah silk to dye next. I am not sure if I will dye solids or not. I haven't dyed a solid color in ages maybe its time to do so again. I am thinking maybe some greens.

A Day Off
Hey I got the day off since they are doing Inventory at the store today. What a treat, its too bad I have 10,000 things planned for those 8 hours.

Last night I succumbed to all those blog references to Rogue and the Silk Corset and bought the patterns for those projects. Who knows when I will get to them. I was sorta shocked at the 19 page pattern for Rogue, geez it doesn't look that complicated for that much paper, but maybe it is. I could be in over my head. The corset was so gorgeous on Claudia's blog that I could not resist any longer. Another project that I may be not skilled enough for but then I always like to push those limits.

I am headed over to school to talk to one of the guidance counselors. The lines are too long to talk to them before and after school that Sarah can't seem to connect. So with a day off I said I would do it. I need to go get some Flour to bake roll today too. A few friends get together and cook for the mens shelter once a month and I said I would make rolls so now I need to do that today too. Also planned lunch out with Ginger so its a busy day.

Weaving was my agenda and I hope I get to it before the end of the day. I hate how things fill up your day.

Here is the daughter with her new haircut and Moonbeam

Oh here is a pic of my new toy.

Its a roaster that I can use to dye silk in. I can't wait to try it out per Sara Lamb's technique. Thanks Judy for telling me Shopko had them on sale. I wish I had time to dye today.

Back in the Saddle Again
Well I don't even have the energy to talk about the awful sickness I had last week. Lets move on to other things.

On Saturday I took my fibers down to Three Wishes Fiber Arts in West Jordan Utah. I forgot my camera. SO I have no pictures of this very nice little store.

I came home with this though

.
I wanted some Colinette Yarns and really had a hard time choosing. I am not sure what I will do with it.

I loved this from Manos de Uruguay. The color is really rusts and blues. I got 2 skeins of that and will probably make a scarf or something.

I am still tired out from being sick. So there is not much acitvity here. I need some time to just knit. I tried while I was ill but I kept ripping things out. What a disaster. I took knitting to work today but forgot the pattern so I could not do any of it, that was annoying. I need a simple project to take. Time to start those opal socks for the trillionth time. I don't know why I am having such a problem with them.
